2011 was no 1997, ’97 produced such cringe-worthy hits like Barbie Girl, Mmm Bop, My Heart Will Go On and acts like the Spice Girls were chart toppers. Regardless, here’s a list of the songs I found to be the most annoying, change-the-channel, wish I were deaf, AWFUL… you get the picture!
10. Chris Brown & Ludacris – Wet The Bed
Let’s start the list with a track that is one of, if not the most outrageous R&B tracks I’ve ever heard. Is this supposed to be sexy? Obviously Breezy isn’t talking about urinating. Top it off with Ludacris spitting the worst verse of his career and you have without question one of the worst songs of 2011.
9. Toby Keith – Red Solo Cup
It’s kinda catchy. It’s definitely a redneck anthem. But much like some of the worst pop music of 2011 it’s SO FORCED and manufactured. College kids drink out of red Solo cups. Toby Keith is 50 years old, his college days are well behind him. To top that off, Toby Keith’s reported income for 2010 was over 50 million dollars. With an alleged net worth of close to 90 million it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that Toby Keith is probably sipping from crystal stemware.
8. Gym Class Heroes – Stereo Hearts
What else can you say other than pure pop garbage? Pop radio has been airing this track on repeat for what seems like forever now and it really doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon. “They say good music is so hard to find…” this track should be lost, and never found again.
7. Jessie J – Price Tag
See Black Eyed Peas: Where Is The Love. It’s basically the same song.
6. YC – Racks
Racks on racks on racks… I don’t get it. Is YC promoting a sale at TJ Maxx? Is he dreaming of his favorite busty model? Is he differentiating himself from the rapper stereotype and collecting bikes instead of cars. Scratch that, this is every stereotype wrapped into one awful song.
5. Flo Rida – Good Feeling
In refreshing news, Avicii dominated the dance music scene in 2011. Avicci’s production talents had him nicknamed house music’s “Piano Man”… of course, much like Pitbull, if there’s a great house track, you know Flo Rida is gonna jack it. On the plus side, Avicii received proper credit for this and Cirkut worked the production… so it’s not that bad.
4. Maroon 5 ft Christina Aquilera – Moves Like Jagger
Do I have to explain?
3. LMFAO – Sexy & I Know It
LMFAO had an amazing year in 2011. Party Rock Anthem topped a lot of charts, and remains to be a staple in the clubs and on the radio. So how do you follow up from the chart topping Party Rock Anthem? Well, LMFAO decided to follow up with an homage to Right Said Fred’s ‘I’m Too Sexy’. I only hope and pray that I NEVER have to see Red Foo or Sky Blue in a Speedo tanning their cheeks. Yo!
2. Iyaz – Pretty Girls
This song probably should be number one, but thanks to a YouTube sensation, Iyaz gets saved from the humiliation of having the single worst song of 2011. Keep in mind, this is MY LIST, so I get to make the rules and there is no song I loathe more than ‘Pretty Girls’. First of all, Iyaz is nothing more than a better looking Sean Kingston. Second, is Iyaz that much of a commodity that he has lists of girls to choose from? Top it off with the verse “Tryin’ a find a shawty to hold me down” and this song comes oh-so-close to making me want to never hear pop music again. Iyaz, you’re a disgrace.
1. Rebecca Black – Friday
Without a question Rebecca Black’s Friday is the worst song of 2011… before this song Friday was my favorite day of the week. Black was born in 1997 (the worst year ever for pop music), so perhaps she’s cursed. The comically brutal’Friday’ was the butt of so many jokes this year that it’s not even funny anymore. You can’t blame Rebecca though, she’s only 14… her parents should spend the rest of their lives in prison, though.
Honorable Mentions INCLUDE Katy Perry’s ‘Friday’ & ‘The One That Got Away’ & David Guetta’s ‘Where Them Girls at’ (recycling Sexy Bitch)… leave some comments below on the songs you HATED most in 2011!
